My name is Nachliel Selavan.

I have been drawn to art since childhood. I began private drawing and painting lessons at about ten years old with Silvia Bar-Am, in the Old City of Jerusalem.

I went on to attend Yeshivat Dvir for Arts and Music (ישיבת דביר לאמנויות ומוזיקה), a high school for the arts in Jerusalem. The school closed in 2003, the year I graduated. Through those years I studied primarily with Yitzhak Giladi and Arkady Ostritsky.

After high school I kept painting and drawing on my own. In 2009 I joined the Jerusalem Studio School‘s evening drawing classes with Eldar Farber, and took part in multiple Jerusalem Landscape Painting Marathons in the years that followed. Over the years — going back as far as high school — I also studied privately here and there with Toby Willner and Heddy Abramowitz, and kept experimenting with subjects and methods until 2015.

In August 2013 I moved from Israel to New York, where I stayed until March 2020. During my first year there I taught at Barkai Yeshiva in Brooklyn, where I drew a series of parasha illustrations — mostly in pastel, made on the spot while the students were learning that week’s portion.

The move left me less time to focus on artwork. But the same need for creative expression sent me into museums instead, and that is how I became “The Museum Guy”.

This site is where I show my work and offer prints of existing pieces.

I now live in Pnei Kedem, in the eastern Gush Etzion hills, surrounded by views that ask to be painted. I plan, be’ezrat Hashem, to get back to making new work as soon as I have a studio set up again.
